How to Choose the Correct Leather Belt Size
Share
A well-made leather belt should fasten comfortably around the middle adjustment hole, giving you room to tighten or loosen it when needed. Choosing the correct size is straightforward, but belt sizing is often misunderstood because the finished belt is longer than the waist size written on the label.
Here is how to select the correct size for a MANEO leather belt.
Choose Your Normal Trouser Waist Size
The simplest method is to check the size printed on a pair of trousers that fits you comfortably at the waist position where you normally wear a belt.
MANEO belt options are listed in both inches and centimetres:
- 28 in / 71 cm
- 30 in / 76 cm
- 32 in / 81 cm
- 34 in / 86 cm
- 36 in / 92 cm
- 38 in / 97 cm
- 40 in / 102 cm
- 42 in / 107 cm
Select your usual trouser waist size. You do not need to add extra length—the required allowance for the buckle, adjustment holes and belt overlap is added when your belt is made.
Do Not Measure the Entire Length of an Old Belt
A common mistake is measuring an existing belt from one end to the other and ordering that number as the waist size. The overall length includes the buckle end, the pointed tip and the section that overlaps after fastening, so it will be considerably longer than the stated belt size.
If you want to use an existing belt as a reference, measure from the point where the buckle pin meets the buckle to the hole you use most often. Do not include the buckle itself or measure all the way to the tip.
If that measurement differs significantly from the size printed on your trousers, contact MANEO before ordering and we can help confirm the best option.
What If You Are Between Sizes?
If you regularly wear two neighbouring trouser sizes, generally choose the larger belt size. Also consider where you wear your trousers, as a belt worn lower around the hips may require more room than one worn at the natural waist.
For an unusual fit or a measurement outside the listed sizes, contact us before ordering. Because each MANEO belt is made individually, it is best to confirm the sizing before production begins.
Why the Finished Belt Is Longer Than the Waist Size
A belt ordered for a 34-inch waist will not measure only 34 inches from end to end. Additional leather is required for the buckle attachment, adjustment holes and the portion that passes through the keeper.
That extra length is already included in the pattern used to make your belt. Simply order your normal trouser waist size and leave the allowance to us.
